Turkey has overlooked a warning by US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo not to buy the S-400 missile defence system from Russia, saying the agreement has already been carried out and there is no return.
During a NATO meeting in Brussels on April 27th, Pompeo has told his Turkish counterpart that the United States is “deeply worried about Ankara's decision to buy missile defence system from Russia, which does not coincide with NATO systems, an official has announced.
American officials have also said Pompeo has warned Turkey that states buying such systems from Russia risk facing new sanctions, the kind that the US has imposed on Russia, hitting the military and defence industry.
But Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu has told some broadcasters that buying the defence system was signed in December, and now “is a work done”.
He has said Russia is “accelerating the process” for sending the defence system to Turkey.
We have completed the S-400 process. It is a work done”, he has said, adding that Turkey will not back off from the threat of sanctions.

“Turkey will not accept this”.
Cavusoglu has said his country is open to buy more weapons from NATO allies.
Turkey's decision has raised tensions in several NATO member states, which have stepped up forces on the eastern side of the alliance because of what they have described as increasing the Russian threat.
