Tom Bossert, senior adviser to President Trump for Homeland Security, resigned suddenly Tuesday, another senior official adding to the long list of those leaving the Trump administration.
No reason has been given for his resignation, but it comes a day after the start of conservative John Bolton's post of national security adviser, the third to take office during the 15 months of the Trump presidency. Both Bloomberg News and CNN report that the Bossert leaves at Mr. Bolton's request.
Bossert, 43, served at Mr. Trump's White House since his inauguration. He was a senior advisor to the president for cyber security. The Bassert was also noted for addressing the government's response to devastating hurricanes in Texas, Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands last year.
It has often appeared in newscasts to represent the administration's view of terrorism threats.
But his candidacy to become national security adviser was set aside in favour of Mr. Bolton, former ambassador to the United Nations, who replaces General H.R. McMister who quit this job.
