Kosovo President Hashim Thaci, in an interview for the Serbian daily “Vecernji list”, has spoken openly about establishing the Association of Serbian municipalities, about the possibility of clashes between Albanians and Serbs, about the possibility of the collapse of the Kosovo government due to Serb ministers' boycott and other topics.
Thaci has even expressed confidence that Kosovo, at any cost, will form its own army. Similarly, Kosovo's president has promised that Croats will soon have representation in Kosovo's parliament, Cohae.net broadcasts.
According to him, it is not true that Kosovo is refusing to establish the AKS and that it stands behind all international obligations, as is the AKS, but has added that there can be no executive competence, nor can it be the basis for creating a Serbian political entity in Kosovo.
Thaci said that association will be founded on the basis of Kosovo's laws, and that, according to him, the EU high representative Federica Moghrini has said that.
However, the president says that with the founding of the AKS there is no expected clash between Albanians and Serbs, and that all Kosovo citizens, without any distinction, should respect the constitutional order and the laws of Kosovo.
There are no “and there can be no clashes in Kosovo between Albanians and Serbs. There has been no such conflict in the worst years of war. We have fought with Serbia's invading power, not with Serbs”, he stressed, broadcast Koha.net.
Regarding the boycott of Serbian ministers and the possibility of the country going to the polls as a result, Thaci said: “The Kosovo Government's boycott by the Serbian List is harmful to all, even to Serbian politicians and citizens themselves. All possible problems in this respect should be resolved within Kosovo institutions. Indeed, even in past government mandates, the Serbian List has appeared prematurely from the Parliament and the Government of Kosovo, and that policy has brought nothing good to Kosovo Serb citizens”.
Asked why Kosovo Police arrested the director of the office for Kosovo in Serbia's Government, Marko Djuric, Thaci said that Kosovo's “police have banned the Serbian leader because he illegally entered northern Kosovo. It has entered even though Kosovo's organs have not received sufficient permission. Unfortunately, this is not the first case he has stayed illegally in Kosovo. We want to advance together, as two states, through normalisation of relations, we need to respect the Brussels agreements to the end, including procedures for organising official visits to Kosovo and Serbia”.
Kosovo President Hashim Thaci believes he will deal with Serbia's president, Aleksandar Vuciq, and that a final agreement on the Kosovo problem will be reached.
I am convinced that the timing of conflicts, disputes and tensions in reports between Kosovo and Serbia should end. On the other hand, the Kosovo issue has been resolved permanently through the mission led by President Ahtisaari in the period from 2005 to 2007. Kosovo is an independent state. Serbs in Kosovo are non-US communities, they have guaranteed rights that are unique and unprecedented in relation to the rights of some non-most communities in Europe. The normalisation of reports between Kosovo and Serbia is the obligation of this generation, it is duty to citizens in Kosovo and Serbia, it is a fundamental step for Kosovo and Serbia to enter the EU”, Thaci said, broadcast Koha.net.
In the question of whether Kosovo will soon have its army, Thaci also answers with full conviction.
“Yes, of course. Here again, in terms of the necessity of creating the Kosovo Armed Forces, there is consensus between us in Kosovo and between us and NATO. The question is how we will realise the transformation of the Kosovo Security Forces (FSK) into the armed force of Kosovo: by changing the Constitution or by amendments to the Law on KSF for”, Thaci said.
He is also optimistic when it comes to Kosovo's UN membership.
“It is not good to talk about deadlines, but we think that after signing the legally binding agreement between Kosovo and Serbia, and I hope that this will happen this year, it would have to be submitted to UN membership. This agreement and normalisation of reports between Kosovo and Serbia would have to secure Kosovo's entry into the UN”, said President Thaci.
In terms of reports between Kosovo and Croatia, Thaci expressed pride in the excellent “raport” between the two countries.
There are many things that connect Kosovo and Croatia in the bitter past. Both Croatia and I entered a defensive fight and eventually became independent states. We rejoice in every advance of Croatia which is now part of NATO and the EU for several years. I think we'll join her soon. I think we can do more in the trade and economic co-operation between the two countries. Likewise, soon Croatian representation in the Kosovo Parliament must be secured with a guaranteed seat. For this the Constitution should be changed and I am willing to make my contribution”, Kosovo President Hashim Thaci concluded.
