School teachers in Kosovo have not given up strikes in education. If during this week where students are on spring break, their demands are not met, then they will begin strike on April 13th.

So has made it known about Indexline, Benderman Jashar chairman of the United Education, Science and Culture Union (SBASHK).

He has added that they are making efforts to meet their demands this week, otherwise they are forced to continue the strike after the student vacation.
“this week, we will have meetings with the prime minister and others, so that these days that have remained to have serious meetings and perhaps our main requirement involving the 90th-year teaching bill, the government gives the green light and goes to the Kosovo Parliament. On the other hand, it is working on teaching requests, such as the law of wages, the labour law, and commissions that have invited us to be part of them. But the key point is, the 90's education workers' status bill, and I'm saying if you don't change something during these days, we'll be in the previous position, we'll continue the strike on April 13th after the students' vacation. This decision is of teachers who have been taken at the February 24th education congress, something that should be respected”, Jashar said.
He has added that this strike is not known how long it will last, as it depends on the time of meeting their demands.
“We have sent official letter to the prime minister, Deputy Prime Minister Bytyqi, we have announced that if these days there is no solution for the law on the status of the 1990s, then we have no choice but to strike. The strike begins on April 13th and will be a strike indefinitely until our” demands are ignored, he added.
On the other hand, Education, Science and Technology Minister Shyqi Bytyqi for Indexline has said there should be no room for strike because the government is making efforts to resolve their demands.
We've been in constant contact with the SBASK and they're convinced of our will to find a solution. We as minister have already completed our obligations. I consider that as long as the government itself is making the effort to resolve and there will be no room for strikes, much more at this important phase of tests and closure of the school year”, the minister Bytyqi has said.
Otherwise, at the end of this month, high school students are expected to undergo the International Test for the Students' assessment (PISA).
In the latest test, Kosovo high school students ranked third from the end.
