Symbol of corruption reacts to Freedom House report

The presidency has reacted after the report to “Freedom House”, which said the fight against corruption in Albania took a hard hit with Ilir Meta's election as president.

According to the presidency, “Freedom House” is being misused in the function of unilateral political agendas in our country.

The “Freedom House” report on Albania, among other things, says:

The fight against corruption also took a blow with Ilir Meta's election as president of the Republic on 28 April, whose presidency was made possible by the Socialist Party's votes.

In 2011, Rama himself had named Ilir Meta as a symbol of everything that was rotten in Albanian politics, an assessment that has a large part of the Albanian electorate”. <

But in the presidency's response it is said that the symbol of corruption is not Ilir Meta, but those who distort and order such reports.

In response to media interest over Freedom House's latest report by President Ilir Meta, Teddy Blushi said:

Sorry for misusing this Freedom House report in the function of unilateral political agendas in our country.

President Meta's election has been realised in a completely constitutional and democratic process with a majority of over 3/5th of votes and at a key moment for the country's stability and resolution of the pre-election political crisis.

This report, not only distorts these truths, but speculates and deliberately seeks to create artificial concentrations.

If Freedom House is truly interested in shedding light on corruption in Albania, it should impartially investigate who has influenced and ordered these deformities of facts and truths in this report and are convinced that it will reveal concrete symbols of national and international corruption.
