President Trump has refused to take over a new round of sanctions against Russia on Monday, a change of course that has demonstrated the rift between the president and his national security team, reports The New York Times, Periscope records.
The UN president's ambassador, Nikki Haley, has announced on Sunday that the administration will make sanskions towards Russian companies who had helped the Syrian chemical weapons programme. The sanctions were listed with other government options following an American-led air strike on Syria last week.
But the White House put Haley in contradiction Monday after Mr. Trump has not approved the additional measures.
“We are considering additional sanctions on Russia and a decision will be adopted in the near future,” said Sarah Huckebee Sanders, the White House press secretary.
But speaking later, Mrs. Sanders added that the “president was clear when he said he would be harsh with Russia, but at the same time still like to maintain good relations with them.”
Another White House official, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said Trump has decided not to advance these sanctions. /Periscopi
