A letter signed by 66 US senators requires Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan to release US cleric Andrew Banson, who is accused by Turkish authorities of being linked to a group suspected of organising the failed coup in 2016.
“We are very concerned that the Turkish government has emerged from the framework of a legitimate action against the coup organiser in order to undermine its rule of law and democratic tradition”, it says on paper.
