Sali Berisha sentenced for first time by court

For the first time in his long political career, Sali Berisha has been sentenced by an Albanian court. The former prime minister has been sentenced on April 11th for slander by the Court of Tirana with $1m old money and judicial spending. Berisha was indicted two years ago for slander by journalist and publisher Carlo Bolino for [...]

The charges Berisha has made publicly against journalist Berisha, the civilian chamber, and the Tirana court has described them as slander by condemning the Democratic Party's historic leader. The fact should be stressed that despite the sentence, the court has not been too harsh with the former prime minister since the indictment side had also called for the obligation to publish a suitable lie on the first page of two national newspapers, aimed at clarifying the abusive and false nature of statements addressed to the journalist.

However, the fact that Berisha was sentenced by an Albanian libel court is a historic decision on Albanian justice. Reporter Carlo Bolino's indictment was not the first to be conducted in the direction of Sali Berisha, who has been indicted several times by journalists and politicians for slander, but so far no judge had taken the courage to condemn him.

Berisha had so far thrown it away with the claim that as politicians who are his statements are political so he does not bear legal responsibility as any ordinary citizen. But in the case of journalist Bollino, lawyer Aran Roshi has proved before the court that this is not a political battle. Carlo Bolino, who has been in Albania for 26 years in the role of journalist and publisher, is really a public person but is not a politician, so the groundless accusations made in public by Sali Berisha towards him were slandering a simple citizen.

Berisha charges described as slander
Former Prime Minister Sali Berisha on his official Facebook page, in the dates 04.01.2016, 07.01.2016, 20,06.2016, as well as statements made in the 2601.2017 television interview he had declared: “Ja as stealing Rama with his Bollion, man, mafia 24 karate carbon mafia, charged with financial ties with Sacra Corona Unita<1> wrote among other things Berisha wrote. Berisha had further declared: “Edi Rama and Carlo Bolino and Dixhitino kidnapped 1.7 miles of budgets that were being maintained for civil emergency assistance... (Next)

Condemning these irresponsible, governmental, destructive attitudes, I appeal to the prosecution, to start an emergency investigation, for stealing civilian emergency funds, from Rama and his Bolino”.

On the same date, in Sali Berisha's personal Facebook account, they have been posted by the latter, false data that Carlo Bollino presents as a social partner who, according to Berisha, exploits recognitions with Prime Minister Z. Edi Rama has won a tender worth 170m new money. Similarly, Sali Berisha, in the article published by him on Facebook, slandered Carlo Bollino through the TBS96 society, bypassing tender procedures, has radiolink equipment supplies, for upgrade of the T system. IMS, at the value of $1 billion.

All these charges the former prime minister has not confirmed before the court, and so after a long process of nearly two years has been condemned as a slanderer. It seems that after the long battle for the Justice Reform, and with the launch of the protege process, Albanian judges are afraid of politicians. Even though the process dragged on for about two years, the Tirana court decided to condemn a Berisha statue politician for home. It is even the first time the former prime minister has been sentenced by justice for something. Perhaps a new era in Albanian justice is blowing. /ReportTV
