The remains of the 60-year-old body, David Buckel, were found in the Park Prospectt in Brooklyn, writes Periscope.
In a letter written before the suicide found near the site, Buckel had written how he would burn himself with fuel, wanting to symbolize the damage people were doing to the earth.
He had written that all people already breathe polluted air and have warned premature death.
“Nodita destroyed our planet” wrote the lawyer in the suicide note, quoted by the New York Times.
His letter was also emailed to several news organisations shortly before his body was found, writes the New York Times.
My earlier death from fossil fuels reflects what we're doing for ourselves,” he wrote.
Buckel was known as a very active lawyer. In some cases he had also worked on protecting the rights of the LGBT community./Periscopi/
