The report notes that Macedonia faces a series of problems involved in torture by prison guards, privacy interventions, violence against journalists, the lack of judicial independence, corruption and violence against persons of the LGBTI community.
The government has taken several steps to investigate, prosecute and condemn officials who have committed abuse, including police officers guilty of overuse of force, but the possession of immunity continues to be a widespread problem”, the UN report on Macedonia said.
According to the report, from April 15th to September 15th, the Special Prosecutor, who investigates corruption charges between 2008 and 2015, pressed 18 charges against 120 indictees and opened seven investigations against 25 suspects.
“also initiated preliminary investigations and 142 openly criminal behaviour regarding or stemming from the content of illegally bugged communications”, the State Department report noted.
