Two co-ordinated suicide attacks in Kabul killed at least 25 people, including two Radio Free Europe correspondents and at least five other journalists.

Police said at least 45 people were injured and warned that the number of victims could increase.

The responsibility for the attacks took over the militant Islamic State group.

Health Ministry officials said one suicide bomber has blown himself up in Shash Darak district, near intelligence facilities.
The second attack took place 20 minutes later, when a suicide bomber, claiming to be a journalist, has blown himself up outside the Ministry of Urban Development, where journalists have been collected.

Radio journalists Free Europe Abadullah Hananzai and Moharram Durani are among seven media members killed in the second attack. The AFP agency identified Shah Marain, photographer of this agency in Kabul, as another journalist killed.
The other Radio Free Europe journalist Sabawon Kakar is among the wounded.

The AP quoted police spokesman in Kabul Hashmat Stanekzai as saying four police officers were killed in both bombings.

In a statement issued through his news agency Amak, the Islamic State said its fighters have carried out the attacks. They occur just days after Taliban militants have launched a new offensive, rejecting Afghan Government calls for peace talks.

“I condemn in the most powerful terms today's cowardly attacks in Kabul, which have left Afghan forces and innocent Afghan citizens, including Afghan journalists”, the commander of the US and NATO forces in Afghanistan, dead and injured.

Afghanistan's enemies cannot win. Actions like these only strengthen our steadfast commitment to the people of Afghanistan”, Nicholson said.
