Progress Report, Failed Report

The European Commission has published the report on Kosovo, in which the need for greater fighting of organised crime and corruption is stressed, thus failing to give hope for rapid visa liberalisation to Kosovars. Numerous remarks for the country's institutions have been repeated even in the European Commission's latest report on Kosovo. Politicalisation of public administration, politicisation of public enterprises and independent agencies, lack of judicial system for removing political influences, lack of fighting organised crime and corruption, lack of economic development and lack of education quality progress are some of the key remarks given to Kosovo.
Meanwhile, European Union representatives do not give the date when visa liberalisation for Kosovo could happen. On the other hand, President Hashim Thaci has said Kosovars are tired with reports and that liberalisation should happen as soon as possible.
Of the six Western Balkan countries, senior EU officials said Serbia and Montenegro have made some progress and are continuing negotiations on the EU approach process, while opening negotiations have been launched with Albania and Macedonia, while Kosovo and Bosnia and Herzegovina are on track to meet European criteria before they can count on membership negotiations
