The large presence of wandering dogs on the streets of Pristina continues to bother citizens who are daily endangered by the bite that can carry disease.
The feeding of wandering dogs, often even with epidemic diseases, is seen as common, even running free by no one even in Zahir Pajaziti Square.
The same problem continues to be permanent not only in the capital but in the entire territory of Kosovo, for which no long-term solution has yet been found.
From January to today, the Infectious Clinic has recorded 91 cases of people being bitten by dogs with clinical pictures affected by Pristina and the suburb.
Infectious Clinic Director Hamdi Ramadani has told Periscopi that those cases have been given adequate therapy, but that they have not been stopped in treatment at the clinic.
We didn't lay any sick people in the department on this campus, Ramadan said of Periscope. According to him, the cases from Pristina were mostly, some 38 Sosh.
From Gjakova there was one case, Drenas 12 cases, F. Kosova 16 cases, Ferizaj 3 cases, Vushtria 2, Dragashi 1 case, Kline 2 cases, Podujevo 7 cases, Lipjan 4 cases, Mitrovica 3 cases, Shterpca and Maliseva, reportedly in response to the Infective Clinic.
Periscope has contacted Pristina's municipality regarding plans that it has to avert this permanent problem, not only in the capital, but throughout Kosovo.
The official from the Directorate for Public Services in the Pristina municipality, Habib Qorri for Periscope, has said that this problem is available throughout Kosovo, including the capital. According to him, the municipality is consistently contracting to address them under the law.
The problem with wandering dogs is a big problem not only for the Pristina municipality but at the local level, because they migrate from one place to another, and then there can be an exit from the suburbs because here the city is big and has better food opportunities. We as municipalities are constantly contracting to treat them according to the law on animals and human norms, Qorri said.
According to him, elimination is not allowed except for specific cases specified in the law.
He has shown that in co-operation with Kosovo Veterinary Agency - The AVK is working a plan to treat stray dogs in order to increase the level of security.
Seeing their large number, in co-operation with the Veterinary Agency of Kosovo we're making a plan because the government has shared a fund, adding to the tools we have planned, we will try to treat them in order to increase the security scale, the Communist official has declared.
According to the Pristina municipality, this way the issue of wandering dogs will be addressed, until a broader project is launched at the level of the country.
Otherwise we have even now contracts and every day the company operates in different neighborhoods of the city and the suburbs. We will thus continue in legal treatment until the country begins to have even wider projects at the level and to start becoming permanent and sustainable solutions.
The law on animal care in Kosovo envisions sterilisation of animals as a method for reducing the number of stray dogs.
With the aim of reducing the population of wanderers, dangerous and unsuitable animals, the mandatory sterility of the animal must be determined at Article 6 of this law.
The Kosovo government has also approved the Veterinary and Food Agency's decision on management and control of wandering dogs in October 2017.
Under this decision, all municipalities of the Republic of Kosovo in their territory must declare the emergency situation and mobilise the defence system's structures, rescue, assistance and other emergency services, which will deal with treatment of stray dogs to reduce the risk of citizens, including, occupied, occupied, quarantine, sterilisation, vaccine, detoxification, identification and issue./Periscopi/
