At least two workers per month die in jobs in Macedonia, out of disrespect for safety standards at the workplace.
According to the Society's annual report on Safety and Health in the Workplace, in 2017 there were 158 workplace disasters, of which 24 have been fatally affected.
The chairman of this association, Milan Petkovski, said that since there is no individual responsibility for disrespecting security measures from employers, we will have no change in the situation, writes Tv21.tv.
If there were consequences for the employer, then he would come into a situation to respect the law at that level that would become a preventive culture. If thoughts about the consequences do not bring them to the level of individual responsibility, then we will still have these improvisements, when multiple employers compensate for accidents in the workplace translate into euros. There must be individual responsibilities”, Petkovski said.
University Professor Jasmina Calovska has brought her students to learn about the importance of respecting security at the workplace.
According to her, raising awareness of the issue should begin from elementary school until the beginning of the practice.
The professor feels that young people are increasingly aware of the danger of disrespecting safety measures at work, while major violations make private companies, according to her.
“I think that developing awareness of the importance of workplace security is already high and that young people are aware of what safety means instead of work. All that is done in the field of security and health during work is done just to satisfy legal obligations. What will mean security and health during work means meeting basic conditions for job safety, but in terms of having safe and healthy workers”, Calovska said.
According to the Society's annual report on Safety and Health During Labor, there have been more accidents in place of work than 2016 and more deaths last year.
Disaster cases have taken place more in Skopje and Kumanovo, while cases in which agriculture and construction have lost most of their lives have occurred in agriculture and construction facilities.
