The first site to have been bombed is a house in Damascus that is said to have been used as a chemical weapons plant. The house is located east of the capital, and from there it has been seen smoking a lot.
According to reports, Americans are attacking in the capital's Barzeh area, which according to Syrian state media is under attack.
Britain's Defence Ministry said it is using its latest Storm Shadow missiles and the target has Syrian military factories in Homs.
The US is using Tomahawk missiles to attack all targets within Syria, an official told Reuters on Friday. The official didn't want to say if the American aircraft would be involved in the attack.
