Massacres return to Itur of Congo, Uganda, home to thousands of young people

More than 400,000 Congolese have fled their country in the direction of Uganda's neighbor. This new shift in migration is just one part of about 4.5 million conglomerates displaced throughout the country, reports “Al Jazeera”, Periscopi broadcast.

Tensions between the Hema and Lendu communities, which share the land known as Itur, exist from laws imposed by Belgian colonization.

Hema's people have equally benefited from education and wealth by creating a socio-economic group that has created gaps nowadays. In addition, the geographic proximity of the two tribes has allowed marriage, and in some areas they speak a common language.

Hostships between these communities date back to the second world war in Congo, which had occurred between 1999 and 2003, where an estimated 6,000,000 people have been killed, while another 500,000 have been displaced.

Violence in this region had continued until 2007 after Ituri had enjoyed relative peace.

Although it is generally understood that Lendu's groups have triggered recent violence, armed with machet knives, spears, bows and some firearms, their motives behind the unexpected attacks remained unclear./Periscopi/
