Several factors affect the life span of a note, from which we isolate circulation and treatment from users.
The life span of a note also relates to its nominal value. Overall, small cuts have life expectancy of 2-3 years, middle cuts 3-5 years, and large ones over 7 years.
From the point of view of the circulation, small-cut bills are mostly left in stores and circulate several times until the deposit in bank sports.
Their return to bank sports is carried out mainly when bills fade or lose some of their qualities. High - cut bills are managed better by users, showing more caution in use than in small cuts. So the greater the nominal value, the longer the bank notes.
During 2017, some 109 million pieces of bank notes were processed at the Bank of Albania, which were checked for authenticity and rectification. As a result of processing, some 23.4 million pieces of inappropriate currency for use resulted, which were withdrawn from circulation and, at times, replaced by new bills. The $20m circulation coEfficent for 2017 resulted in the value of 0.85, which means that an average bill returns less than once a year to sports in the Bank of Albania.
This cofficient is highest for 500 Leka, 1,000 Leka and smaller for 5,000 Leka and 2000 Leka cuts, indicating that the latter return to Albanian Bank sports more frequently.
