Kosovo's Imam ranks among 100 most influential personalities in New York

He is considered a religious leader who has made a spectacular career by building bridges of trust among peoples and ethnicities with different religions.
Born in the Terstencian village of Drenas, the imam Kukaj moved to Staten Island in 2002 to run the Islamic Miraj School.
He has also become the leader of the Albanian Islamic Cultural Centre.
Kukaj, now 15 years old, is known for his special programme, as he arranges a meeting of the Catholic and Muslim community that ends with a common meal once a year.
Among other personalities honoured by Staten Island are government officials, health care leaders, banking and real estate, academics, journalists, lawyers and various activists.
Imam from Kosovo a month ago received praise and from New York chairman Bill de Blasio for the contribution the Albanian Islamic Cultural Centre is making to cultivating interreligious understanding and tolerance in New York, writes Active Pres.
Through the New York Police Commissioner, he has conveyed an appreciation, naming this Center a very influential center.
In gratitude, he has stressed that religious communities are the main pillar of state strengthening.
At the initiative of the Albanian Islamic Cultural Centre, de Blasio has declared the month of April as months of religious communities.
