Syrian President Bashar Assad, in an interview with the 2016 Serbian newspaper '%s', had talked about Syria's problem and its reports with Serbia.
He had said that Syria was experiencing what Serbia had experienced in 1999, the Periscope broadcast.
Here's the part of the interview where Assad talked about the problem between Kosovo and Serbia, as well as full English-language interview. THESE!
Politics: Mr. President, relations between Serbia and Syria. Do you have any messages for the Serbian people?
Assad: I don't think we've done as much as we can do, from both sides, before the war. Of course, the war will leave its effects on the reports between the two countries, which may be understandable, but we have to plan for other times because your country has experienced an aggression at the time of Yugoslavia and I think people are still paying the price of that war. Second, the war in your country has been portrayed in the same way; as a humanitarian war where the West has wanted to intervene under the argument that aggression was being carried out by one community in the other. So many people in the world believe this story, like Syria, they use the same mask, the mask of humanitarianism.
Currently, the West does nothing for your citizens, they don't care about our citizens, they don't care about anybody in this world, they just want to achieve their own interests. So I believe, we have the same lectures here, but in a different region. We're talking about two decades apart, maybe there's a difference when events are taking place, but the content is similar. So I think we need to build better reports (with Serbia v.j.) as opposed to the cultural, economic, political ascetics in order to strengthen our position in the region.
Politics: But, the Syrian government, you and the Syrian state support Serbia on the Kosovo problem?
Assad: Yeah, we do this. We do it though Turkey wants to have its influence over Kosovo, of course, in Kosovo's favour, but we reject it. That was before the war, but despite our reports then, we had decided to support Serbia. /Periscope.
