44-year-old Charles Williams has been sentenced to 10 days in prison and 18 months to stop working at emergency call centres, writes Periscope. Harris County Attorney's Office has clarified that Williams has repeatedly closed the phone in case of emergency calls.
The calls she ignored involved stealing, overcoming car speeds, and even killing. Prosecutors have said Williams worked as operators for 18 months in a row until 2016.
It has been discovered after the emergency call centre kept records of the conclusion of the calls, if closed by the operator or caller. According to these evidence, it was found that in most of the calls lasting less than 20 seconds, it was what was closing the phone.
She told the investigators she hung up the phone because she didn't want to talk to anyone.
The citizens rely on 911 operators to ask for help when they need it. But when a public servant betrays community trust and violates the law, we have the right to hold them responsible for criminal acts”, it is said in a statement by Deputy District Prosecutor Lauren Reader. /Periscopi/
