The Daily Mail has published satellite images showing the moment when Russian ships leave the Syrian base before the threat of US air strike. Whether they left after Trump's ultimatum or are preparing for rocket launching is unknown.
Top photos show how at least 11 ships, including the Admiral Grigorovich frigate, seem to have left the military port of Tartus on the Syrian coast.
One photograph, said to have been shot last night, shows that only one submarine remains in port, which is said to be protected by missile systems.
The movement comes after Donald Trump told Russia to prepare for missile attacks in Syria, following the Kremlin's threat that he would destroy any missile that would be dropped.
The exact reason for ship movements is not yet clear, but some have speculated that they have simply moved into a drill, or that they may have been set in readiness to catch the missiles.
