Montenegro's ruling Democratic Party leader Milo Djukanovic has declared that Serbia has lost its fight for Kosovo with the wrong policy in the past and with the senseless conflict with NATO in 1999.
Djukanovic has said Montenegro has not recognised Kosovo's independence due to pressure from the West, but because of the conviction that the truth should be looked into the eye and because it thus contributes to the stability of the region.
Today's “Serbia does not decide for Kosovo, it has only received the bill for the defeat suffered earlier”, Djukanovic has assessed.
He has added that in Montenegro's view, reality with Kosovo is unchanged.
All those who think that in the meantime have been strengthened enough to change the unfavourable reality for Serbia, only to spend the time of the citizens of Serbia”, “vercinje novosti” quoted Djukanovic as saying.
Leader of The PDS has added that Montenegro would not have been Serbia's greatest friend if, contrary to its view, it would harbor that illusion.
He has said Serbs in Montenegro have the same rights that other people have in this country.
The opposition “Liders, on the back of Serbs in Montenegro, give themselves the importance they do not, primarily by presenting themselves as exclusive representatives of the interests of Serbs in Montenegro, which, simply, is not so”, he said.
He has added that Serbian party leaders are sacrificing the interests of the Serbian people in Montenegro.
Milo Djukanovic is Montenegro's presidential candidate in the presidential elections, held 15 April.
