A Chilean elder believed to have been the oldest man in the world died in hospital at 121.
Celino Villanwe Jaramillo, who was interviewed last year, died in a town in southern Chile on Wednesday.
The Shekulli, who was born on July 25th 1896, has failed to be recognised by Gunnes in the absence of official verifications for his birthday.
After an emergency operation and intensive attention, doctors hoped first that he would be saved this time. But in the last days, lung damage became critical, and on Tuesday they called a priest to give the last rites.
The family that adopted Celino when he was 99, has expressed her sadness, saying he was part of their family, the man of the house.
Although honored by politicians and even by Chile's billionaire President Sebastian Pinera, as the oldest man in the country, Celino Villanwe has never had special health treatment, nor has the adaptive family received additional aid. /Periscopi
