Pompeii is accused by the Democrats of having anti-myslimic views and homophobic attitudes.
Pompeii has received 57 votes for and 42 against the U.S. Senate, thus being elected to the post of American top diplomat.
His predecessor, Rex Tillerson, was fired last month by US President Donald Trump.
Republican senators, who have majority in the High Chamber, have unanimously voted for Pompeii. Six Democrats have voted pro-election of Pompeii in the post.
