The European Union will wipe out 20 Brazilian companies from the list of businesses that own the right to export meat to 28 member states, about a year after the broken meat scandal, the European Commission announced today.
” Member States unanimously voted for the suspension of 20 Brazilian companies, which currently enjoy the right to export meat and meat-based products (mostly birds)”, a European executive spokeswoman announced.
This suspension comes after shortcomings filed in the official Brazilian control system.
The aforementioned companies failed to meet the EU requirements compiled after an audit conducted.
In March 2017, a scandal broke out in Brazil after police found that potential meat exporters corrupted inspectors of hygiene services to standardise rotten meat as if it were within consumption rates.
