During Lula's eight-year presidency, from 2003 to 2011, Brazil's economy grew dramatically as poverty and inequality eased.
Many poor Brazilians say that even if Lula was involved in any act of corruption, it was less than that of other politicians. They believe that no one has done more for the poor and less for the rich than he has.
Lula said he is innocent of the accusations and that they are politically motivated to prevent him from competing again for president of the country.
A Recife maid said: “Who has never erred? He's the only one I'd vote for. ”
Lula's governments took a series of steps to increase the number of people from Brazil who had little income to go and study at universities. His program was called “University for all”
Lula has appealed the decision she is sent to prison, but he has been rejected. /Periscopi
