The very important vote against former President Lula was by Judge Rosa Weber. With that decision he will remain in prison for 12 years. Weber was considered the only vote and its decision sealed the fate of Lula. He can be imprisoned within a week, reports the Guardian”, the Periscope broadcast.
The decision marks an extraordinary turn of events for Brazil's best-known politician, who left the office with an estimate of more than 80% and whose social policies helped turn millions away from poverty. He leads opinion polls ahead of a presidential election in October, despite his conviction and six judgments involving him in corruption.
Recently, however, Lula became a more polarizing figure when the economy fought and many corruption charges appeared. According to the polling institute, 53% want him imprisoned.
Lula has said he is innocent and charges are politically motivated to prevent him from running for president again. /Periscopi/
