Germany will review thousands of decisions for political asylum, an official has said today, while prosecutors are investigating a migration official who allegedly approved applications that have not met the criteria.
Over a million migrants, who have left the conflict in the Middle East, have come to Germany since 2015. This has raised concern about social cohesion and security.
Deputy Interior Minister Stephan Mayer has said in the Parliament's Lower Chamber that the Federal Office for Migration and Refugees will review decisions for 4,568 asylums issued in January 2013 (January 2017).
Certificates for accepting asylum will be cancelled if legally allowed.
On Friday, prosecutors have said that an official is allegedly giving asylum to about 1,200 people suspected of failing to meet the criteria. Most of these people who have won asylum belong to the ethnic Yazid community.
Mayer has said that dozens of other people are suspected of working with this migration official, who has issued asylum. According to him, two legal firms are involved. Mayer has said all the decisions of these firms will be revised.
