More than 140 children sacrificed about 550 years ago were found in a mass cemetery in the coastal region of Peru.
The discovery was made near Trujillo, located near the center of ancient civilization Chimú.
More than 200 young South American camels were sacrificed along with children, all allegedly killed at the same event.
The discovery was supported by National Geographic Society grants, and was published exclusively on the National Geographic website.

In 2011 the first massive cemetery of human sacrifice was discovered in a country known as Juanchaquito, where the remains of 40 victims and 74 South American camels were discovered during the excavations of a 3,500 - year - old temple.
