“I should stress that what we are seeing, in eastern Gutan and elsewhere in Syria, are crimes against humanity,” said Zeid Raıd al-Hussey on Friday at an urgent meeting of the United Nations Council for Human Rights, reports “Alzeera”, broadcasting Periscope.
“Autors of these crimes must know that they are being identified, that files are being built in order to track them and that they will be held responsible for what they have done,” he added.
His comments come as about 400,000 civilians trapped in the Damascus district, surrounded by rebels, are subject to a shelling by the Syrian government and Russian aircraft, which have killed at least 674 people and injured hundreds more than two weeks.
The UN official noted the prosecution of war criminals of Serbia and Argentina as examples of justice given to perpetrators of crimes against civilians. “Rots of justice may be slow, but they grind”, he said. /Periscopi/
