Citizens of a municipality in Estonia have chosen the cannabis leaf to be a symbol on their new flag and military uniform.
Kanepi is a municipality in southeast Estonia that was founded in June last year by a merger of three districts, and as a result of the changes of this local level, citizens were able to vote for a new symbol to represent the municipality, reports the BBC, Kosovo Press.
“Kanep” is the Estonian language word for cannabis.
This symbol received 12,000 votes out of a total of 150,000 participants in the vote. Andrus Seeme, mayor, said he would respect the will of the majority citizens.
Cannabis is illegal in Estonia, however, government officials said no one can prevent local authorities from using the cannabis symbol if they wish.
