Citizens in Belgrade are voting today in municipal elections, which are considered a test for Serbian President Aleksandar Vuciq and the now in power Progressive Party.
The elections are also important for Belgrade's role in the economy and national policy.
Serbia's Progressive Party has dominated polls held before holding the vote.
Opposition parties, however, hope to create a challenge in the Serbian capital.
They accuse Vuciqi's party of fearing opposition supporters and sulking political rivals in party-controlled media.
The ruling party has rejected the accusations.
More than 1.5 million voters will decide for members of the assembly, who later appoint the speaker.
Belgrade's current leader is Sinisa Mali from Serbia's Progressive Party. / REL
