Today is World Civil Protection Day. This day begins much earlier in the wars of England and France that are intended to protect the population, but it is now designed to protect people from natural disasters. This day was formalized in the 1990s.
Hajriz Sejdiu, director of the Department of Readiness at the Agency for Emergency Management, said that there has been a shortage in Kosovo, but after the 2003 war by UNMIK this agency has been established. “Today in 2018 The Emergency Management Agency will be ready at any time to get citizens to help, if there will be any disasters”, he said today on the morning show “good morning Kosovo”, on Kosovo Radio Television (RTK).
Sejdiu suggested there have been tests and exercises to demonstrate that Kosovo has the capacity to protect citizens from natural disasters.
“Now we have a platform for reducing risks, in the field of readiness we have drafted the national reaction plan, we have training, firefighters, medical services, etc.”, he said.
According to him, there are unpredictable risks because of climate change. Kosovo has various risks, such as fires, earthquakes, and in recent times, different storms, which have come because of climate change”, it said.
