Authorities in Iraq on Tuesday have identified the bodies of 39 Indians who were kidnapped by the “Islamic State” (IS) in Mosul in 2014. Investigators said 70% of the DNA was compatible with the bodies of 39 Indians.
Construction workers had discovered a mass grave near a village in Badush, northwest of Mosul.
“They were killed in front of my eyes,” said Hajrit Masih, one of the survivors of the massacre. Masih was shot in the thigh but managed to escape from terrorists.
Relatives said they received a phone call announcing the fate of their relatives. About 10,000 Indian citizens live and work in Iraq, reports “DW” Transmission Periscope.
Families had long hoped that some of their loved ones might still be alive under the auspices of the IS. The Indian government had also confirmed that most people had survived.
With severe pain, I have informed the victims' relatives that their families were killed,” said after addressing India's parliament./Periscopi/
