After ratification of the demarcation agreement with Montenegro, Brussels has also reacted. Through their official website, they have indicated that ratification of demarcation was the key condition for visa liberalisation, but now Brussels will observe Kosovo in the fight against corruption.
In a joint statement by Supreme Chief of Foreign Policy in the European Union, Federica Moghrini, Commissioner for Foreign Affairs Johannes Hahn and Commissioner for Internal Affairs Dimitris Avramoopoulos have said ratification of the demarcation was key to visa liberalisation.
In 2016, the European Commission proposed to the European Council and the European Parliament lifting visa requirements for Kosovo citizens, with the realization that Kosovo will ratify the Border Agreement with Montenegro and strengthen its data in the fight against organised crime and corruption.
The assessment of the processrbal in the fight against organised crime and corruption continues even in light of the latest information provided by Kosovo authorities”, the joint international declaration said.
The European Union expects all sides in Kosovo to continue the hard work and successful efforts to achieve visa-free travel for the people of Kosovo and in the interest of the region”, the statement said.
