Europe's cold wave has continued with similar intensity at the weekend with three new victims reported in Poland. The number of deaths related to weather conditions in the country has increased to 23 since Monday.
Victims are also registered in Italy, Spain, Slovakia, the Czech Republic, Lithuania, Romania, Serbia, Slovenia, Britain, the Netherlands, Sweden and Norway. The freezing temperatures in the past two days are still beginning to soften in other parts of the continent. Warnings of cold weather remain at the same levels in countries like Ireland, Germany, Italy and Norway. But, they have withdrawn to Hungary and Serbia.
With weather improved, several airports reopened on Saturday after freezing conditions had hampered the ministry the previous two days. Among them are the airports in Dublin and Cork, Ireland, the Shipolite in Amsterdam, and the Geneva airport in Switzerland.
What was called the east beast caused large parts of Europe to be covered by snow this week even where the phenomenon is rare as in southern France, Spain, and Italy, while 60 victims are so far being counted as a result of bad weather.
Weather conditions were also extreme in the northeastern part of the United States, where fallen trees claimed the lives of at least seven people.
