With particularly provocative calls and causing tension again, Turkish President Recep Tayip Erdogan has responded to his Greek counterpart's recent statements, Prokopis Pavlopoulos.
His speech, which has had insults and threats for Greece, has been held at a conference of his party in the province of Sarkarya, exactly where Turkish forces have interrupted the Greek Army march towards Ankara in 1921.
“Those who want to refresh their memory, let them go take a look at their recent history. Those who utter words greater than the size of their bodies before reading fairy tales should read a true history book.
Let them learn very well how they escaped becoming salted fish in Sarkarya and how they abandoned these places by jumping into the sea. I said it and I say it again: We have no intention for anyone's territories and sovereignty”, said Recep Tayip Erdogan.
A week earlier, from the Piria area near Thessaloniki, Greek President Pavlopoulos, bringing a message to Ankara, had stressed that Greece has made Turkey clear together with the EU, the US and NATO, that the Lozanne Treaty leaves no gap that allows for change of borders, nor is it revised or reactalised, and it does not create disputed areas in the Aegean Sea.
