Arian Zeka director at the American Economic Ode in Kosovo said the consequences of corruption we experience every day, and they reflect a lot on doing business, on the treatment they receive from relevant institutions in equality, in the quality of services, in the quality of education.
“During research businesses have identified the justice system as the main problem facing Kosovo, while a Kosovo Government minister said several days ago that the main problem for businesses remains limiting freedom of movement”, Zeka said.
He added that the American Economic Oda believes that limiting freedom of movement for businesses and citizens is a consequence and one of the main reasons leading to this is corruption.
While Justice Minister Abelard Tahiri said an economically powerful private sector in Kosovo is needed.
“in Kosovo according to general perceptions, animation, myth, turns out to be instruments using lawbreakers who use it as tools by violating fundamental principles”, Tahiri said.
Tahiri invited for partnership between the private sector and the Ministry of Justice for co-operation in the fight against corruption, which he said believes in positive results.
According to research by the American Economic Oda in Kosovo, of which 214 businesses have been surveyed, 98% of businesses in Kosovo appreciate corruption as a serious problem.
According to businesses, the factors that enable corruption in Kosovo are poor rule of law and the weak implementation of existing laws, lack of political will, small wages and poverty.
Courts, Prosecutor's Offices and Procuring Organization, according to the research of the American Chamber of Commerce, are institutions with the highest presence of corruption.
According to research, concern is the fact that 85% of businesses surveyed have not reported corruption in competent organs.
“Arsyet of not reporting these cases concerns fear of revenge from relevant institutions in the future and lack of confidence in judicial institutions”, the report says.
While business registration agencies, the Kosovo Tax Administration, Dogan, Kosovo Assembly and the President's Office are the most transparent institutions.
