At least 14 people have died as a result of an explosion of a bomb in a vehicle outside the hotel in Somalia's capital, Mogadishu, government sources reportedly.
The explosion took place Thursday near the Welelyye Hotel on a crowded street, Maka Al-Mukarama, reports “Al Jazeera”, the Periscope broadcast.
Somalia Interior Minister's spokesman confirmed for “Al Jazeera” The death of 14 people and 10 injured.
Witnesses present report a powerful explosion on a crowded street.
“The majority of victims are... people who have spent the time drinking a tea, there have been destruction and buildings have been damaged,” Mohamednur Abdirahman told the news agency “AFP”
Supposedly the attack was made by the al-Shabab group, reports the news agency “Reuters”, which has quoted the military group's spokesman.
Al-Shabab, who is struggling to overthrow the internationally recognised Somali government, often carried out attacks inside and around the capital.
Thursday's attack comes about a month after a two bomb bombing in Mogadishu left 38 people dead./Periscopi/
