Trump's adviser addresses Kosovo: US is with you, keep your international commitments

I want to bring you our president's greetings. President Trump is very proud of Kosovo, proud of what you have achieved and very proud of our relations with Kosovo. ”

General McMister said the United States will support Kosovo in various aspects of society's progress and its international commitments:

The UN will stay with you as you strengthen democratic institutions, protect human rights, confront corruption and create a society responsible for rule of law. We will stay with you as you strengthen the economy and reduce unemployment, especially among Kosovo youth. We will stay with you as you maintain your international commitments and revive dialogue with Serbia to overcome one of the most difficult chapters of history and memory. ”

National Security Adviser H.R. McMisters was among a group of Americans who attended the ceremony, including lawmakers, representatives from the State Department and national security officials.

Kosovo President Hashim Thaci and Prime Minister Ramush Haradinaj were also in expectation.

General McMister said he had been in Kosovo himself in 1999, as team commander, when the conflict had just ended.

“I was deeply impressed by the strength of the people, who had just come out of conflict, their positive spirit, and the fact that they immediately started building their future. Therefore, celebrating this anniversary is a great privilege”, said Mr. McMister.

Since 2008, he said, you have held fair and reliable elections and extended your judicial and court systems across the country. ”

National Security Adviser said the US invested about $24 billion to end conflicts in the region, including $1.8 billion in direct assistance to Kosovo.

He cited the $1 billion deal Kosovo signed last year with an American company for the thermal power plant. That, he said, will strengthen the country's independence, resolve pollution threats and show the world that Kosovo is open to business.

Mr. McMister said Kosovo has been a force for peace and prosperity in a region that has been historically plagued by conflict and strife. He added that every citizen of Kosovo should be proud of these successes and Americans are also proud.
