Air pollution in Kosovo, separately in the capital, has surpassed all allowed norms by ranking in the world's first order. There is still no study of the major causers of polluting, but it is currently mentioned that the biggest pollutants are thermal power-generating plants.

After two-day debate on alarming air pollution, Kosovo's Assembly has adopted the resolution, which requires the environment to be a top priority for the Government of Kosovo. “Set appropriate quality electorates to KEK thermal power plants by the end of the calendar year 2018”. This was the third point of Resolution approved by the Parliament. But, the Kosovo Energy Corporation, will not be able to change “Kosovo electronics B” in this year. KEK's strategic plan is to change them over the next two years.

“The KEK has developed the strategy for re-visiting the TCB since 4 years ago, taking into account official strategic documents such as Energy Strategy 2013-22, mid-term energy balance and annual energy balance approved by the Government and Parliament. Further after the study of feasibility by the EU, agreements for joint financing have been reached for capital investment in exchange of Elektrofils and nitrogen Oxides equipment ( NOX) for 2019-2020. The cost only for ElektroFiltra is about 40 million, while the time needed for the construction of this stabilisation is 12 to 18 months for both TCB units!”, has told news.net, Skender Bucolli, spokesman at the Kosovo Energy Corporation.

The spokesman, Bucolli, says KEK, currently has no official information about the document approved by the Parliament that recommends this institution take measures in line with the Parliament Resolution.

“Whatever it is, in terms of capital investments we can confirm to you that KEK would act in full compliance with all strategic documents, including the Energy Strategy ( 2017-2026) approved on January 25th 2018 by the Parliament of the Republic of Kosovo”, Bucolli added further.

Otherwise, the Parliament resolution adopted a few days ago envisions 19 points. And the latter says that “if the Government of Kosovo does not implement the proposed measures, the Kosovo Assembly will start procedures for changing Article 52 of the Kosovo Constitution so that the right to clean air and clean water can be included as a guaranteed human right in the” Constitution.
