Kosovo President Hashim Thaci in an interview for the biggest and oldest newspaper in South Korea “The Korea Times”, speaking of interstate relations, has said the similarity in Korean and Kosovo stories is a good basis for deepening relations between the two states.
“The fight for the release of the two countries is quite similar, and we also have similar friends and allies worldwide”, he said.
Thaci has expressed great gratitude for recognising Kosovo from South Korea. We will always be grateful for that. Kosovo is a strong friend of South Korea and I feel very positive when I see or hear that there are an increasing number of Koreans visiting Kosovo. I hope we will get even more investments from Korea”, he added to “Cora Times”.
The newspaper writes that as a new country, Kosovo's gross domestic output was $6.65 billion, which is 0.47 percent of Korea's ($1.41 trillion) since 2016. However, Thaci said Kosovo “has enormous potential”, which its industrial force has in energy.
“is an attractive and secure market”, he said. “There is security for investments and an American company has made $1.3 billion investment in Kosovo's energy sector recently. I invite Koreans to follow the” example, he said, adding that the government is looking for other industrial sectors for privatisation.
He has also spoken of Kosovo's representation of the Winter Olympics in PyongChang, saying it was a wonderful ceremony and these Games are also a part of history for my country, because Kosovo is participating in the Winter Olympics for the first time.
Kosovo is a new state, but has talents, especially in individual sports”, Thaci said. “We also hope for a medal even here”, he added.
