The director of the Peace and Human Rights Building Programme at Columbia University, David L Phillips, said that NATO intervention prevented genocide in Kosovo.

I am very proud that the United States has intervened together with NATO to prevent genocide in Kosovo. I'm also proud that the US led the co-ordinated declaration of Kosovo independence”, Phillips' statement said on the 10th anniversary of Kosovo's independence.

According to him, the declaration of independence was an event that took place on a specific date for achieving sovereignty and is in a process.

Building state takes time. Much has been achieved, but much more must be done. I've been with you since the beginning. You can count on my continued support as Kosovo faces continued threats to its sovereignty and gains greater global recognition”, Phillips said.
