Parliament reviewed recommendations for energy privatisation in the north

Today afternoon at the plenary session of the Kosovo Assembly, recommendations have been considered by the Commission for Human Rights, Gender Equality, for Undiscovered Persons and Petitions concerning the fate of electricity spent in the four northern municipalities of the Republic of Kosovo. On behalf of the professional Commission, MP Duda Balje has said [...]

On behalf of the vocational Commission, MP Duda Balje has said that at the meeting held on December 12th and December 18, 2017, they have reviewed the report with recommendations by the Ombudsman concerning the destiny of the electricity spent in the four northern municipalities of the Republic of Kosovo and has decided that the Assembly submits these recommendations: Kosovo's Kuvedni adopts three recommendations stemming from the above report and making decisions as follows: Energy Regulatory Office urgently halts the illegal practice of billing the energy spent in northern Kosovo; The Kosovo government, in co-operation with the ZERE and KED, find an alternative way to avoid losses in the country's north.

There were also verbal clashes between deputies of the Vetevendosje and PDK Movement.

Albulen Haxhiu MP at the VV, said some PDK deputies have neglected the issue of discussing energy destiny in the north.

Mrs. Shala-Berisha, here trying to make it look like it's really about to decide the right of others like this. If so, then you had responded positively to the Commission for Legislation for a joint meeting between the commissions, where we could address this issue together. You didn't even answer the invitation you were made as chairman of the Commission. So the point here is to board the ZERE to decide their people, how they've done over and over again. Therefore, we are against and will not allow you to send PDK people and include the ruling coalition on these boards”, Haxhiu said.

While MP Sala Berisha-Shala has said it is true that she has received the invitation, but said there has been no claim to politicising the ZRE board.

The “is true, that it has sent a letter to the Commission, but then it was done only for formalism, while its deputies in the Commission have prevented the completion of the Energy Regulatory Office. And guess what, he says we didn't mean to have PDK people. So, I want to remind the citizens of Kosovo and MPs that in the process of recruiting this competition to complete the board, the British Embassy has participated, as a result of a memorandum that the Kosovo Government has signed”, Berisha-Shala said.

There were several other MPs involved in the debate, who stressed that this issue should be adjusted and no longer paid south citizens for northern citizens.

Otherwise, the session continues tomorrow at 11: 00 a.m., where recommendations by the ombudsman for energy management are expected to be voted.
