As expected, delegates at the CDU party conference in Berlin on Monday approved with a broad margin the grand coalition agreement with Social Democrats (SPD), with only 27 of the 975 delegates voting against it. Earlier, Chancellor Angela Merkel urged other party members to support the agreement.

Many of the participants at the conservatives' conference remained disappointed by the concession that the SPD gave them, but she argued it is the best it could be done, reports “DW” Transmission Periscope.
“We will not reject the mandate citizens offered us just because we are disappointed with the result,” said Merkel. “People have always calculated The CDU is responsible for the country. ”
She also defended her decision to grant the SPD Finance Minister.
