A group of 12 states that are members of the European Union are demanding that Western Balkan countries participate in the annual meetings of this institution even before joining the EU.

Reuters writes that a number of states are demanding that the six Balkan states participate in the annual summit of EU leaders.

“Austria, Chechya, Estonia, Hungary, Ireland, Italy, Lithuania, Latvia, Malta, Poland, Slovenia and Sloakia, want the six countries of the Western Balkans to participate in the annual summit, the news reports.

Under this proposal of these countries that are submitted to the European Commission in late January, ministers of Balkan countries will participate in EU meetings on environmental issues, health, trafficking and foreign policy.

EU officials are even being asked to visit the Western Balkans more often.

But the last few days are seen as an optimism for Balkan countries, as Bulgaria has taken over the chairmanship of the EU that will lead the institution by 30 June.

Bulgaria's priorities are expected to be the integration of Balkan countries into the EU.

If that happened and the demands of these states were met, then Kosovo could also participate in such meetings organised by the European Union.
