Austria's embassy in Kosovo has reacted after reporting to the media that Austrian deputykancellari, Heinz-Christian Strache, has said Kosovo is part of Serbia.

Austrian Ambassador to Kosovo Gernot Pfandler has said Austria has changed its attitude towards Kosovo, while Strache has denied, through his spokesman, that he has issued a controversial statement to the Serbian newspaper “Politika”.

“There is a change of Austrian stance against Kosovo”, the Austrian ambassador has written on his Twitter account.

“Austria is one of the first countries to have recognised Kosovo, and since then is one of the most powerful supporters of the Republic of Kosovo and its European perspective”, he has stressed.

His reaction comes after Austria's deputy commander was reported to have said today that Kosovo is part of Serbia. But through his spokesman, he has denied saying so to the Serbian newspaper “Politika”.
