The US has carried out rare air strikes on the pro-government Syrian forces after what it called a “untested attacks” on Kurdish and Arab Allied fighters. About 100 pro-government fighters were killed in the night incident in the province of Deir al-Zour, reports the BBC.
They allegedly tried to get ground east of the Euphrates River, captured by the Islamic State group by the US-backed Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF).
State media said that “aggression” left the tenth people dead or injured.
The Middle Euphrates Valley serves as an unofficial demarcation line in eastern Syria, with the government controlling the western side and SDF in the east.
Both sides have been fighting there over the past year, seeking to drive IS militants out of their last major raid in the country.
On Thursday, government planes bombed cities in the eastern Ghout region held in rebels near the capital of Damascus for a fourth day.
The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, a monitoring group in the United Kingdom, said at least 36 civilians were killed, bringing the death toll to 185 as of Monday.
