New York City Councilman Mark Johnaj hired someone he said was a distant cousin.
He said that “when it comes to my staff, I always make sure that we employ the most qualified person for that position. I believe that the person I hired has certain characteristics, responsibilities and professionalism”, Johnaj told the Daily News.
Gjonaj has said the person he hired was the only Albanian-American politician who spoke Albanian and English, and that he needed one because according to him he cared for the needs of the community.
An article in the newspaper '{0}'City Island has said about the case that Albanian Gjonaj has employed his cousin.
Johnaj, who formerly served at the State Assembly, first engaged his neighbor in certain jobs for which he did not make public his cousin's position.
“We should not have lawmakers in the state or at the level of the city who take jobs on the basis of favouring”, executive director Susan Lerner said.
Mark Gjonaj is a Democratic Party politician in America. He also served at the New York City Council.
