There is a war initiated by Russia, and this war has been raging at sea since 2014. We must fulfill our duties regarding protecting the country's sovereign interests. And Ukraine's sovereign interests will also be implemented in the Kerch Strait,”Andriy Tarasov told the Ukrainian media, Kyiv Post. If we are faced with aggression, we are willing to use other rules, especially regarding the use of weapons, if we are forced to do so. ”
Russia and Ukraine have been at odds since a pro-Western movement brought down pro-Russian former president Viktor Janukovic in 2014. Since then, Moscow has supported pro-Russian separists in the eastern Ukraine, known as Donbas, and annexed the Crimean Peninsula -- a move that has not been recognised by the rest of the international community.
